Skate punk is a subgenre of punk rock popular amongst skateboarders. It started in the 80's, from the Nardcore punk scene in Oxnard, California. Originally used on any hardcore punk that was associated with skating but now used more commonly on a form of melodic punk with upbeat and harmonious songwriting and vocals much like pop punk with the added energy and speed of melodic hardcore and metallic guitar riffing mixed in.
